Some awesome work has been going on across Mangitangi Maramarua Catchment Group, but to get the job done, we need everyone in the game.
Why this project matters
Aka Aka sits within a unique landscape of farmland, bush valleys, wetlands, and waterways that provide important habitats for native birds, fish, insects and plants.
Introduced predators and invasive weeds place significant pressure on these ecosystems, reducing biodiversity and limiting the ability of native species to thrive.
By working together across farms and river islands, the Aka Aka community is creating a connected predator-control network and restoring habitats that support taonga species such as Australasian Bittern, Long tail bat / Pekapeka tau-roa, Kaka, Kereru and Tūi now and into the future.
Every trap checked, weed removed, and native tree planted contributes to a healthier environment for future generations.
